Another week has passed and I feel that I’ve become acclimated to this new environment. This week was full of pleasant surprises and engaging activities that I really enjoyed. We opened the week with an introduction to podcast/radio. The different components of podcast intrigued me. I learned different things such as a timeline of its evolution, early history, and objectives. It’s amazing how the use of broadcast has transformed over time but remains a widely accessible source of media/communication.
A highlight of my week was the variety of guest speakers we were introduced to. The speakers from USC provided an excellent rundown of school life at USC, its benefits, and even the college admission/application process. It was very informative and educated me on how I might want to approach my own process. (They’re successful selling me I can’t lie) The speakers from our communication and journalism classes were both very engaging to me and helped me view a side of the college experience I hadn’t known before.
I had some great moments from our classes In journalism 101. I was eager to venture into the world of podcasting, utilizing the professional equipment on the USC campus. It was pretty fun and by the end of the week we had our first newscast attempt. This specific activity gave me a professional exposure to a form of media production and it was very cool.
Another highlight of my week was the field trip to History museum. I was a bit late due to bus delays but nevertheless, the experience was delightful. History is beautiful, It represented something that although I may not have been a part of, is still accessible to me. Eventually my present self will be part of a history and legacy that I leave. There are so many stories imbedded in Los Angeles that are essential to not just its foundation but even other parts of the world. I visited many parts of the building and even explored the outside exhibits with my friends. I even bought edible crickets (sour cream and onion) but they weren’t very good so I wouldn’t recommend.
My group and I also started creating our podcast, beginning with the script. I’m a bit versed in audio production/editing so I believe I’ll enjoy the process and am looking forward to the end result. We chose to center it around the same topic as our infographic for our communication zine. However, we altered the aim a little. We plan to focus on the impact that social media content has on the mental health of young individuals. I believe it’s relevant to society today and will allow us to discuss freely about a topic we’re extremely familiar with.
I’d say this week was surely better than the week I had before. Not just because I’m more used to the atmosphere but because the day days of instruction were more enjoyable. The time I’ve spent has been gratifying. Nearing the completion of this program, I can’t wait for what’s in store for this remaining set of days. I guess in a couple of days I can say I graduated from USC
