Week 2 at AYA

This is the end of my second week, it went by pretty fast. I had a great week so far, this previous week taught me a lot of new materials. The fact that this program is almost over feels a bit surreal. If I were to be asked if I’m happy with the way I’ve changed and presented myself so far, I would respond that I’m not. Due to my lack of social skills, I haven’t made as many connections as I would like. Despite the fact that I haven’t said much, I would claim that I have learned a lot. I discovered some fascinating new facts. I liked this program much more than I had anticipated. In terms of that, I’ve ventured out and been open-minded to things.

For instance, I realized that I like the entire news broadcasting process. Although I mostly watched from a distance, I was happy to see how my peers collaborated and had a good time, which increased my desire to participate. I never thought that the whole news industry would spark interest in me. It’s intriguing to learn about every facet of it. Seeing how each small component contributes to the final output is really cool.

As for my first week I would say that I liked professor Rogelios Lopez’s class simply because it piqued my interest in communication and the implications of the entire message. This week I would say that professor Allen Lopez’s class really stepped up to my liking. It could be because he gave us more hands-on experience when he showed us around the Wallis Annenberg Hall, and the broadcasting process. It really was an experience and I relished every moment of it. Something else I never did before was a silent interview. I found it pretty interesting how you can infer from someone’s appearance and body language.

In my first class, communication 101 with professor Rogelio Lopez, I discovered the whole context of podcasting. The articles that we were introduced to helped me understand the value of my podcasting. Podcasting is a means of disseminating meaningful messages and demonstrates the variety of innovative approaches to inspire change. Podcasts have a very personal feel to them, as though the listener and speaker were having a conversation.

Today we went to the Natural History Museum. I haven’t gone there in yearss. I definitely felt so much nostalgia from when I would go there with my mom. When I was younger I would just look at the exhibits and call it a day and enjoy my trip. This time that I went I got so much insight and of the histories and facts of everything. I was thrilled to enter the dinosaur department since I really like dinosaurs. I’ll show one of my favorite pictures I took of the dinosaur statue that was at the entrance. I also learned about the making of Los Angeles and it left me stunned. I enjoyed my trip overall with my friends. We shared some laughs as well as some yummy fries my friend bought.

At the conclusion of this week at AYA, I had a better grasp of the various forms of communication and journalism. You can communicate without using words. One observation, such as the silent interview or images such as those at the museum can convey it. My conversational abilities have improved this week and helped become more proficient.
