Aya Jornal Week 2- Zaydon King

Going to the Natural History Museum was such a fun and thrilling experience. The moment I got inside, I saw this killer bone structure of a T-Rex and Triceratops fighting. It was like a blast from the past, the museum displayed other huge skeletons of dinosaurs and other creatures that lived on earth millions of years ago. It was incredible to imagine how huge they were and how they used to travel around just like animals do today. The way they were placed made them look like they were frozen in time. I also saw fossil replicas of early humans, which were skulls of people who lived a long time back. It was interesting to find out how early humans looked. These displays showed how humans and animals developed and evolved over time.

My favorite area of the museum was the mineral and crystal exhibit. It was filled with bright rocks, colorful stones, and valuable gems. The crystals were like something out of a fantasy novel with their shiny appearance. They were all various sizes and shapes. Some were spiky and pointed and others were round and smooth. It was like stepping into a cave full of tresure. And what really caught me was the gold!! There was one section showing actual gold that was possibly worth over a million dollars! They had large gold nuggets and pieces out. It was neat to see what gold looks like before jewelry or coins are created from it. It made me understand why many men and women throughout the world went on various expeditions looking for it.

The other fantastic part of the museum was the taxidermy animals. They were real animals that were stuffed so they seemed like they were alive. They were set up to look like they were running or in their natural habitat. It was like going through a zoo but nothing moved. I got to see all kinds of animals. My favorite was the alpha male walrus. It was huge with big tusks and heavy wrinkled hide. It felt so real and powerful. I stood in front of it for a while just taking in all the details. It was perhaps the most memorable part of the museum for me.

On Wednesday we took a trip down to the Annenberg Digital Media Center. The media center was filled with the newest technology like cameras, lights, microphones, and computers for editing. It was almost like an actual news or television studio. I found out how journalists create digital content and behind the scenes media is created. It also provided me with a better insight into what it is like to work in the media field.

My highlight was getting to produce our own podcast. We wrote a script on different events that are happening as of now and recorded on professional equipment. It really felt like we were at a news station like KTLA. It was wonderful to hear Winston and Lola speak like actual anchors and see the audio clips accumulate. We worked together as a team on the project, brainstormed ideas, and solved issues as they came up. It made me feel proud of what we had accomplished and gave me confidence that I could potentially do more media projects in the future.
