New foundations: Rocky Road

Life is quite the roller coaster and this was no different. The first few days were hard and took a lot of time to acclimate and get used too; however, I’ve been able to power through it and preserver. It just provides me with more a reason to get better and keep striving for higher summits. I have been struggling but taking it and making it a reason to better myself. Not only that this opportunity provided me with a great deal of other perspectives and placed me in the shoes of thing i never thought I would do. Even learning thoughts, ideal, and skills that would benefit me later.

During classes we would learn about a great variety of items and mediums, such as infographic design and the eye catching and complete synesthetic creations of Du Bois through Jackie Mansky’s short article. Mansky would continuously comment on the symbolism and even mentions how the spectacular displays were present in the Paris World. But also provided hands on attention through our group project in which we take the consideration of typography, color theory, and graphic design practices such as Du Bois.

In just the short time that I have attended the program there has been innumerable view points and consideration I could not possibly conceive of myself. For instance: the oak sapling of Jessie Owens that USC hold some in honor of that, the branding of symbols and what that means for the people involved. Even the effective communication and marketing ideals how even while something may look good they’re pushing some agenda onto you in some way or form. With many friendly and happy faces and kind people to help you, it is ensured that you’re never left behind. The professors Rogelio and Alan will not only break these difficult discussions down but will also respond to any individual questions. With true and fair understanding as well they give a sense of ease.

Many other people I’ve met are so sweet as well. While I would usually keep to myself and sit in a group to myself; there were moments where I had to let the roots of my tree grow outwards. I was able to meet and start building genuine connections with other students and even working in tandem with them to complete projects and items that need to get done or collected. I was able to overall just have a good time and mental space while in class and out of it when it came to handling assignments projects and various tasks.

The experience was in total just quite enchanting so far. While the first week is usually the hardest to get used to the campus still felt like home. All while continuing to foster the minds and expand the reaches of students just like myself–providing opportunities and experiences that many of us may not have gotten the joy to experience. Holding the highest regards of inclusivity and hand on interactivity AYA truly is just the start to a long journy.
