Chill Week at AYA :)

The third week at AYA, was a very relaxing and chill one. I feel like the environment is starting to feel more like a community, so everybody just feels relaxed around each other, there is less anxiety. Our communications class with Rogelio is still very fun and informative, he does a great job explaining the idea of civic engagement. Something I thought was fun this week was viewing everybody’s photographs, I think it turned out very well, also the quality was pristine. I still think, even in week 3, the facilitating sessions are still very awkward, sometimes there’s long drawn out silence where no one talks. I think people aren’t talking because they don’t have an answer to the questions, instead of anxiety, however, this is just my observation.

The food this week at AYA was the best it’s ever been, we had primarily chicken I believe on Monday and Wednesday. I think on Tuesday, we had tacos, and the tacos were amazing. There were chicken and beef tacos along with other condiments like onions. The chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the beef tasted really good. Tacos were for sure the best lunch at AYA, in my opinion. The chicken at the diner in USC was still pretty average, they served pizza, soup, and chicken. Even though the chicken was not dry and had flavor, the pizza was okay and the soup was okay. The one thing I enjoy at the diner or buffet are the drink machines, Sprite is definitely the best drink in the world btw.

Outside of the classroom, I explored the campus even more but I already mapped pretty much all of it so nothing was that new. I love the USC campus because it feels “old school”, like the architecture is not modern or futuristic, I feel like many modern buildings look very bland, the USC campus has a lot of color and jazz. I also like the school spirit at USC, I watched some football videos of USC vs UCLA. I think the vibe that was captured in the video was great.

In Mr. In Mr. In Lopez’s class, we got some cool cameras, which I think was great. I have never been good with cameras so this experience would be good practice. The camera quality was extremely high-end in my opinion, however, there are so many buttons on the camera that it makes it very confusing. We also had our second newscasting which was great, Mr. Lopez always is a great mentor who provides a lot of insight in the industry. This week I was in the studio controlling the teleprompter, which is basically a script built in a camera. I was controlling the speed in which the text flows, which helps the anchor read at the right pace. I was having a good time controlling it for some reason even though I am not sure why, I think I just like reading along with the anchor and handling the speed of the text.

Overall, I am very excited for the final week of AYA and the graduation on Friday, this experience has been amazing so far and I would like to thank Rogelio, Mr. Lopez, Brittany, and Karen for making AYA the best it can be.
