AYA: Week 2

Though this week marked the point where everyone began to settle in and fully adjust, that doesn’t make the events that occurred dull. In fact, this was another week full of adventure (quite literally, with the scavenger hunt) and fun. To start off this reflection, I’d like to head straight to Tuesday, when we first visited the Media Center. Though our time there was short, it was still very eye-opening. Seeing this cutting-edge facility for the first time was amazing, and I couldn’t help but feel like a little kid in a candy store (cliche, but true). I really wanted to interact with all the technology and screens, but we would have to wait till Thursday when we would create our newscast. Nonetheless, the room left a huge impression on me, and I’m sure on everyone else as well.

Wednesday was a day full of child-like chaos. First, we went to eat at one of the many dining halls of USC. I have to say, it was a little underwhelming. I think I was expecting some grand, futuristic eating space (considering how expensive tuition is). All this to say, the food was still very delicious. My friends and I enjoyed critiquing the dishes like Michelin-star chefs, even with our lack of expertise in the area.

Afterward, that’s when the real mayhem began. As a team bonding activity, we had to engage in a scavenger hunt. We were given a list of landmarks all over campus, where each group had to take a photo. The locations were scattered all over USC, and since everyone in the group had to be in the photo, this made the task all the more challenging. Everyone took this team-building exercise very seriously and started to run immediately. I, unfortunately, wore my very heavy, platform Converse on this day. This fashion choice did me absolutely no favors, as we had to run back and forth on this huge campus. As much as I enjoyed the workout, I really do hope not to repeat the same mistake of wearing my biggest shoes during a long run. Even though my team didn’t win, it was still very fun scattering all over the place and looking for obscure spots at USC.

On Thursday, we took our portraits for this very website. We all went to Mudd Hall for the scenic background, and it was rather pretty. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the architecture. From the walls to the fountain in the center, the space was absolutely beautiful. I only wish that it was bigger since I feel like it is such a small area of campus that it is often overlooked. Later in the day, we finally went to shoot our newscast. It was very fun seeing all the behind-the-scenes on how a newscast operates. Though the room was small and most of us had to look in from the outside, it still was very interesting to observe. I am very excited for the upcoming week when more people will be able to actively participate. And that was all!

Same time next week?
