Second Week at AYA :0

The second week of AYA was another thrill for me. The second week was more fun for me because we got to do more projects. The podcast Rogelio assigned for us was a fun experience, I got to tinker with podcasting tools and use my skills in editing, which is something I like to do. For the podcast, I focused my voice on the biggest issue among teens who want to participate in civics. For many teens, they are unfamiliar with how their government works, and as a result they are unfamiliar with the political process, for those who want to become active in politics, there aren’t a lot of facilities or resources that help them do it.

The second week of AYA was also better than the first week because everyone is more comfortable with each other, especially in the discussions. I notice that a lot more people are voicing their opinions and disagreeing with each other, which I thought was cool because I always like to hear people’s opinions. This week, I met new people and got to explore the campus even more, thanks to the scavenger hunt we did on Wednesday.

The scavenger hunt was very stressful and tiring, especially because it was very hot outside and we had to do a lot of running. We came across a lot of obstacles, like not knowing where certain landmarks are, very confusing pathways and roads, and construction. My team did very well, we visited all of the landmarks but unfortunately, we did not win, however, we did have fun. It is a very good thing that the classroom is air conditioned 24/7, so it was very refreshing to chug water and have a cold environment. Another thing that was interesting this week was the food. We had a variety of different foods this week, including panda express, chicken, and a buffet at USC. To be honest the buffet at USC was painfully mid, the pizza was average, the chicken was okay, the only food item I thought was good was the cereal. For some reason I thought the buffet was going to have premium, 5 star meals because we are at USC, and USC is pretty expensive to attend.

Another fun new experience at AYA, was broadcasting and making scripts with Mr. Lopez. Due to Mr. Lopez’s experience, I now have a very good understanding of what journalism encompasses, and how to write like a journalist. The media center was very interesting and confusing, there were a lot of screens and technology that I was unfamiliar with, although I might add that studio 1 was very unique and very professional. The camera in studio 1 was like premium, 5 star stuff, it was very clear. I am very interested in getting experience in studio 1, I want to try being a manager or exec or something, I like management roles a lot.

Overall, the second week at AYA was refreshing and new, we got to experience new things like broadcasting and podcasting. I would like to reiterate again that the professors are amazing, they are very experienced in what they do, they know how to teach very well, and their very calm and chill individuals.
