My 4 weeks, My perspective

These 4 weeks of Annenberg youth academy were so engaging and inspiring. I learned so much just from these four weeks. As I reflect on my time here at AYA I feel a sense of accomplishment. The field trips were also another exciting part of this youth academy. Some of my favorite topics to learn were about:  In the past traditional gender stereotypes were commonly reinforced through media portrayals. Men were often shown as strong, assertive, and dominant. While women were depicted as passive, nurturing and focused on their appearance. These stereotypes limited the range of roles and opportunities available to individuals based on their gender. In the modern world, there has been a shift towards challenging gender norms in the media. Strong female characters are being featured in movies and TV shows, breaking the stereotype that women are always in need of rescue. Similarly male characters are being portrayed with a broader range of emotions, challenging the notion that men must always be tough. Media plays a crucial role in shaping our understanding of gender. By challenging stereotypes and promoting equality, the media can create a more inclusive and empowering environment for all individuals, regardless of their gender. I also learned about the Japanese in World War 2, when the Japanese Americans were forced to leave their homes and live in camps because of their fear and prejudice. Looking at the newspapers taught me that culture and identity are important and everyone deserves to be treated with respect and equality. We can learn from the struggles faced by Japanese Americans during this time and work towards a world where everyone’s cultural identity is celebrated. The two projects we did were so fun. Me and my team worked so hard in completing and making these post cards creative. These projects really helped me to learn more like the podcast we did in the Japanese American museum. The class of communication has helped me learn more about the world of connections. The podcast we did in class has helped me and given me an insight on how to do it and how fun it is to do. The readings we did gave me so much information that I can use in real life, especially when professor rogelio would talk about. The discussion was so helpful and engaging.  The discussion about the American dream was very insightful since we all got different perspectives. Not only is it the mexican immigrants’s american dream theirs, but also their kid’s American dream. The reality of not being successful gets passed down to their kids, who start their life feeling more obligated to work harder and surpass and accomplish more than the level they are at. This is where the fantasy grows and gets passed on. Not realizing it’s never ending, they put all their hard work into being successful. With parents wanting their kids to be more successful, it makes them work even harder. These lectures helped me gain more insights and helped me develop  ideas of how everyone has their own perspective.
